The John Dawson/Paul Dyson farmstead. The earliest portion of this farm (the stone section) was built in the late 1830s. John Dawson bought this property from Thomas Rawlings in 1847. When John purchased the property, it is believed that the stone portion of the home, the stone barn, and the stone fences that run extensively through the property were present. The larger sections of the main home were added on to the stone portion through the latter half of the 1800s (we see a very similar expansionary effect at Mt. Carmel in Dickerson!).
The home was sold into the Dyson Family in the 1870s, who maintained ownership of the farmstead into the 1940s. Talented farmers, the obituary of Benjamin F. Dyson (who owned the place in the late 1800s to his death in 1924) describes him as one of the “oldest and wealthiest farmers in this section of Montgomery County.”
Following Benjamin Dyson’s death, the home was sold out of the Dyson Family.
