William Wallace Poole House

As I was driving home from work today and taking the sharp turn on Rt. 107 just outside of Poolesville, I found myself wondering about the old house that use to sit at the end of a long driveway there (you might remember it as the one that was always lit up at Christmas…torn down about 10 years ago).

Turns out the house was built between 1855-1865 (older than I would have guessed!) by Judge William Wallace Poole (1833-1899). The property changed hands many times over the years. In 1956 the property was purchased by Eugene Casey, the Director of the Farm Credit Administration under President FDR.

The style of the home is known as “Carpenter Gothic,” and as you can see from the pictures, it unfortunately fell into a rough condition before coming down completely. Really wish someone could have saved it.
